Seat's standalone brand, Cupra, has big plans for the future: it aims to sell 500,000 units yearly and will launch three new electrified models by 2025. This will represent a huge jump for Cupra, when you consider that since its launch in 2018 it has only delivered 200,000 units. The three new models coming are the Terramar, Tavascan, and UrbanRebel. If the last name sounds familiar is because a concept with the same name was launched last year. Now, Cupra is back with a new version of the UrbanRebel with a closer to production body compared to the previous version.

While the other two models - the Terramar and Tavascan - will be launched in 2024, the production version UrbanRebel will arrive in 2025. The model will be designed and developed in Barcelona, while production is planned in Martorell, Spain. The concept you see here represents about 95% of what the production version should be, so it gives us a pretty good idea of what to expect.

The model will be built on Volkswagen Group’s MEB Small platform, just like the Cupra el-Born and the Volkswagen ID.3. It will measure 4,03 meters in length (158.66 inches) and will be built using advanced recycled polymers and bio-based materials. Unlike the previous version of the UrbanRebel that delivered a total of 335 horsepower of continuous power and up to 430 horsepower at its peak, the new version is a little bit more realistic. The new concept is powered by an electric motor that delivers a total of 226 horsepower. It goes from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 6.9 seconds and is good for a range of up to 440 kilometers (273 miles). Just for the sake of comparison, the el-Born offers a range of 500 kilometers (310 miles), while the ID.3 can deliver as much as 420 kilometers (260 miles).

To design both the exterior and the interior, Cupra used a 3D printed and 3D knitted manufacturing processes. And while everything was designed with saving weight in mind, the UrbanRebel will still be a hit in the premium compact segment. Its interior is typical Cupra, with a big, curved infotainment screen, a sophisticated instrument cluster, and game controller-like buttons on the steering wheel. Just like the el-Born, the UrbanRebel will also be offered with a pair of front sport bucket seats.

The UrbanRebel will be the cheapest out of the three future electrified models, with prices expected to start at around €20,000 or about $21,500 at the current exchange rates. We will find out more about the production version in the future months.

“The UrbanRebel* is more than just a car to CUPRA. This is the model that will democratise urban electric mobility. Emotional, sexy, and fun to drive and at the same time accessible. We prove that electric cars don’t have to be boring. This will be the next generation’s entry into our range.”, said Wayne Griffiths during the Impulse event.
