Back in 2021, a Porsche 911 GT2 RS equipped with a Manthey performance kit became the fastest road-legal production sports car on the 13-mile Nürburgring-Nordschleife track. With a lap time of 6:43:30, the GT2 RS stole the title from the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series which did the same lap in 6:43:62 just a year before.

Many of you may have never heard about Delage lately, but for sure you will hear a lot about it soon. The company that built the D6 and the D6 in the 1930s is making a comeback, and it plans to do it in style. In an interview with Motor1 Laurent Tapie, French entrepreneur, and the new CEO of Delage, announced that the company plans to beat the street-legal record around Nurburgring with its future supercar, the D12.

According to him, the D12 has the hardware needed to challenge the 'Ring record and its F1-inspired design will surely make things easier. Of course, making a powerful supercar is something anyone can do these days, but Tapie wanted its supercar to also feature perfect aerodynamics. And, it seems that he only needed an entire team of motorsport team engineers with more than 35 years of experience in high-level racing to obtain what he wanted.

For sure we are going to hear more about this in the near future, but the good news is that the supercar has overcome the biggest challenge: it has been fully certified and crash-tested in Europe - the hardest exam for any car out there.

The D12 is offered with a hybrid powertrain that combines a 7.6-liter naturally aspirated V-12 developed in-house engine with an electric motor. While the V-12 delivers a total of 960 horsepower, the amount of power delivered by the electric motor depends on the trim version you are looking at. In the GT version, the electric motor delivers a total of 110 horsepower and pushes the combined power to a total of 1,100 horsepower. In the track-focused Club trim, it only makes 20 horsepower, but since this version will also drop around 200 pounds and will weigh only 2,888 pounds, it will also be faster around the track than the GT. The engine is mated to an eight-speed, single-clutch automated manual transmission.

Delage will build a total of 30 D12 units, 10 out of which will be offered for the States. The company already has working prototypes, but the first deliveries are scheduled for the second half of 2023. As expected, the supercar won't be cheap - a base D12 will be priced from €2 million (about $2.1 million at the current exchange rates) - before options. Customers interested will also be able to get driving lessons from Delage's development driver, ex-F1 Driver's World Champion Jacques Villeneuve.
