Rolls-Royce launched the eight generation Phantom back in 2017, and, five years later, it looks like a facelift version is right around the corner. A prototype was caught testing around streets of Germany in very little camouflage and a new exterior finish for the lineup.

The prototype is camouflaged around the headlights, and the front and rear end. This means very few changes will be made to the exterior. The facelift will mainly be about bringing the car's technology up to date.

We expect the revised headlights to offer LED laser light technology - just like with the current model, while the grille could be illuminated like in the smaller Ghost sedan. For all we know, adaptive headlights could also be offered now that the U.S. government has finally approved them. The interior is already luxurious enough, but Rolls-Royce will add new trim and upholstery options. Also, we expect the current 10.25-inch infotainment display to be replaced with the larger 14.9-inch screen running the latest iDrive 8 software - similar to the one in the recent BMW iX.

Under the hood, the facelift Phantom will retain the same engine: a 6.75-liter V-12 that delivers a total of 563 horsepower and 663 pound-feet of torque. The engine will be mated to the same eight-speed ZF gearbox and will push the car up to a top speed of 155 mph.

Expect the facelift Rolls Royce Phantom to be revealed by the end of 2022.
