The Fastest Car In The World Is A Ford?!
You won’t believe how fast this Ford really is!by Christian Moe, on
The title for “fastest car in the world” is a pretty hotly contested one. Officially, the old Bugatti Veyron Super Sport holds the record at 268 mph. The new Bugatti Chiron is estimated to reach speeds of nearly 280, but it hasn’t been officially tested yet. And then we have the Hennessey Venom GT which hit 210, technically beating the Veyron, but there are several factors that disqualify it from meeting Guinness Records requirements.
But none of that actually matters to us because this video here shows a modified Ford GT hitting 293.6 mph. Technically this Ford GT can’t qualify for world’s fastest production car, because it’s not a production-spec car anymore, but it did set the official record for fastest ever standing mile. That 293 number utterly destroys the old record of 283.2, set back in 2012. Coincidentally, that record was also set by a Ford GT.
This particular car, a sexy little number wearing a Gulf Livery heritage paint scheme, still uses the 5.4-liter V8 that came with the car, but it’s boosted to the point where it’s ready to explode, and it’s making around 2500 horsepower. We say “around” because there is no verified power output. The team at M2K Motorsports, who built the car, haven’t found a dyno that can read high enough to give them more accurate numbers.
The Bugatti may be a space rocket filled with leather and exotic metals, but it seems like the best way to go really fast is to buy a Ford GT and start throwing money at it. We can’t wait to see what happens to this record now that the new Ford GT is on the market.
