Ford introduced its new F-150 Police Responder back in March, the Blue oval's latest weapon for North American police forces. It is now the fastest patrol vehicle available, beating out both sedans and SUVs.

According to tests conducted by the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department and the Michigan State Police, Ford's new law enforcement pick-up, America's sole pursuit-rated pickup purpose-built for law enforcement, has become the fastest patrol car.

The Michigan State Police tests are usually used as a reference point for police cars, but their spokeswoman Lori Dougovito said the most recent report has not yet been made public.

However, Ford claims that preliminary results indicate the F-150 is right up there at the top.

By how much does it beat the competition

It clocked a 0-60 mph in 5.9 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 14.44 seconds at 98.19 mph, which is 0.4 seconds faster than any competitor.

To put that in context, a Dodge Charger equipped with a 5.7-liter V-8 accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds and completed the quarter-mile in 14.85 seconds at 99.9 mph.

Performance

The pickup has a 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost turbocharged engine that produces 405 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque, which is 25 horsepower and 30 pound-feet more powerful than the engine found on previous generation police vehicles.

It is worth mentioning that the patrol version of the pickup produces greater torque than comparable pursuit-rated police vehicles.

The truck also has a 10-speed automatic gearbox and an all-wheel-drive system. The transfer case and automated four-wheel-drive mode constantly shift torque to the front or rear wheels as required.

At the same time, the transfer case also contributes to the overall performance of the pickup by offering excellent stability during high cornering speeds.

Because it is equipped with a rapid four-wheel-drive that works well regardless of road conditions, it makes for faster launches on almost any surface, and the pick-up tops out at 122 mph.

Why Does The Greater Speed Make a Difference?

According to Los Angeles and Michigan police, the 2021 Ford F-150 Police Responder is the patrol car with the best acceleration capability, allowing officers to respond to emergencies more rapidly.

Where is it made?

The F-150 Police Responder is built at Ford's Kansas City Manufacturing Facility in Claycomo, Missouri and will be available in fleets in late fall 2021.

Final Thoughts

The F-150 Police Responder, which was introduced in 2017 as a powerful and capable all-terrain law enforcement vehicle, is now part of the best-selling portfolio of police vehicles in the United States.
