The return of the Ford Bronco name quickly paved the way for various interpretations of the retro-futuristic SUV. Last year, Ford unveiled the future of Built Wild by introducing a short-wheelbase Bronco for the 4600 stock class, which was a throwback to the 1969 Bronco 1000 Baja. Now, Ford Performance took Built Wild to the next level, with a more utilitarian version, based on the four-door Bronco that’s even more extreme.

The idea for #BroncoRaptor was an Ultra4 racing-inspired Bronco built for high speed off-roading & extreme rock crawling.
The target was 400 horsepower.
Now it's official: 418hp + 440lbs-ft of torque!

Congrats to the @FordPerformance team for taking #BuiltWild to a new level! pic.twitter.com/l46WV8zjqF

Like the Ford Bronco 4600 stock car, which was inspired by the 1969 Ford Bronco 1000 Baja, Ford Performance’s Ultra4 racing-inspired Bronco Raptor represents what many believe the Bronco should have been from the start. The vehicle was specifically built for high-speed off-roading and extreme rock-climbing, and it is expected to feature many of the performance goodies found on the Bronco 4600, such as a front Dana AdvanTEK e-locking differential, custom RCV half-shafts, 1.2-inch suspension lift kit (part of the Sasquatch Package), Dynatrac ProRock XD60 axle, 35-inch mud terrain tires, and more.

Unlike the Bronco 4600, Ford Performance gave the Ford Bronco Raptor a bump in power. While the 2.7-liter twin-turbo V-6 makes 310 horsepower and 400 pound-feet (542 Nm) in standard guise, Ford Performance had a goal of 400 horsepower for the four-door Bronco Raptor. Apparently, they surpassed the number since the lifted Bronco officially makes 418 horsepower and 440 pound-feet (597 Nm). Power will still go to all four wheels through the 10-speed automatic, jointly developed by GM and Ford, and will likely share the Bronco 4600’s 4.7:1 final drive ratio.

We mention the Ford Bronco 4600 a lot as it serves as both Ford’s stock class racer in the Ultra4 racing series and a testbed for future Ford accessories under the Ford Performance brand. The Ford Bronco Raptor was the next logical step and, thanks to Ford Performance, it’s now the hardcore off-roader we wanted it to be.
