Ford made us wait for the hybrid truck for a long time. It was in news earlier this year for offering a pathetic range, but Ford somehow managed to kill the news. When the company unveiled the 2021 F-150, the hybrid was showcased, and it showed a lot of potential. Although the truck is still some time away, we have finally gotten to see how it performs in the real world.

A video was uploaded on YouTube by “F150gen14” that shows the 2021 F-150 Hybrid take on the Ram 1500 Hemi E-torque in a towing drag race. If this video is a testament to the truck’s performance, then the hybrid mill will make for a large chunk of 2021 F-150 sales.

The F-150 Hybrid Made Short Work On The Ram 1500 Hybrid

The video starts with both the trucks on the starting line. The Ram’s eTorque system isn’t on the F-150’s level, so it’s not a fair comparison really, but if you call them both hybrids, then there’s no denying that the Ford is much better.

How Are The Trucks Spec’d?

It makes 395 horses and 410 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to the wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. Towing capacity is rated at 11,320 pounds.

The Ford F-150 Hybrid, on the other hand, is powered by a 3.5-liter, Powerboost mill that is said to have the ‘best-in-class power and torque’. This system includes a 37-kilowatt electric motor (47 horsepower) in the transmission housing. It is powered by a liquid-cooled, 1.5-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack. This isn’t a plug-in system and the batteries recuperate on the go. We are yet to receive the full specs of this engine, but it will have a towing capacity of more than 12,000 pounds. This mill will have an EPA estimated range of approximately 700 miles on a 30.6-gallon tank of gas.

Final Thoughts

Ram and GM were closing in on the gap with the Ford F-150, but it looks like Ford has come out all guns blazing with the 2021 F-150. We’ll have to wait and watch to see if it can move the truck in better numbers with this fourteenth-gen model.
