While Ford had already revealed the F-150 Lightning in May 2021 along with all the specs, the company decided to launch it once again to announce that the EV has entered series production
Ford F-150 Lightning is all set to enter production on 26th April 2022, and Ford made the announcement by revealing images of the truck from the company’s new Rouge Electric Vehicle Center
The F-150 has been on sale since 1948 and has undergone 14 generations, but the switch to electrification is arguably the bigger transition in its seven-plus-decade history
Despite the initial apprehensions, the automaker received over 200,000 reservations for the F-150 Lightning. This overwhelming response prompted Ford to stop taking orders for the current model year
The ultra-modern Rouge Electric Vehicle Center is only 19 months old, but the company is already expanding the facility and ramping up the production to cater to an annual capacity of 150,000 trucks in 2023
Ford has invested $950 million into the Rouge facility and created 750 jobs. In total, Ford’s investment in Michigan for F-150 Lightning alone now totals more than $1 billion!
It’s not just the Rouge center that’s gotten all the attention. The electric motors and electric transaxles will be assembled at the Van Dyke Electric Powertrain Center, and the batteries will be assembled at the Rawsonville Components Plant
The Blue Oval also noted that the Rouge facility is the first Ford plant without traditional in-floor conveyor lines. Instead, it makes use of robotic Autonomous Guided Vehicles to move the trucks from workstation to station in the plant
