Ford just released info on the highly anticipated Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition, and the all-electric SUV is quicker than all Mustang models save for the Shelby GT500. It also comes with a bit more torque than the regular Mach-E GT, as well as extra features inside the cabin.

The Ford Mach-E GT Performance Edition is almost as quick as the Shelby GT500

Fitted with two electric motors, just like the regular GT trim, the GT Performance Edition comes with 480 horsepower and 634 pound-feet of torque on tap. While horsepower remains identical to the GT, torque is higher by 34 pound-feet.

How does it compare to the Ford Mustang? Well, it clearly packs more punch than the EcoBoost and GT versions. Namely, the Mach-E comes with an extra 170 horses and 284 pound-feet over the EcoBoost and an extra 20 horses and 214 pound-feet more than the Mustang GT. It doesn't deliver as much power as the Shelby GT350, rated at 526 horsepower (46 more than the Mach-E), but it generates an extra 205 pound-feet of twist. Compared to the Shelby GT500, the Mach-E GT Performance Edition misses a whopping 280 horsepower and packs an extra nine pound-feet of twist.

Ford says the Performance Edition needs only 3.5 seconds to hit 60 mph from a standing start. This rating makes it Ford's quickest electric car to date. The Performance Edition is a solid 0.3 seconds quicker than the Mach-E GT it is based on.

It's also quicker than any Ford Mustang model sans the GT500. Despite the power deficit compared to the G500's supercharged V-8, the Mach-E GT Performance Edition is only two tenths slower than the Shelby model. And that's mighty impressive.

Compared to the Tesla Model X, the Mach-E GT Performance Edition slots right between the Long Range Plus and Performance versions. While it's 0.9 seconds quicker than the Model X Long Rage Plus to 60 mph, it's 0.9 seconds slower than the Model X Performance variant.

When it comes to range, Ford says it can drive for up to 235 miles on a single charge. That's notably lower than the Tesla Model X, rated at up to 341 miles in Performance trim and up to 371 miles in Long Range Plus setup.

The Ford Mach-E GT Performance Edition comes with extra goodies

The Performance Edition is not just a Mach-E GT with extra torque. It also rides on the MagneRide suspension that enables various setups. The front seats are also sportier than the GT model and feature Performance Gray ActiveX material with metallic stitching and Miko reflective inserts. The dashboard carries a unique aluminum insert.

The exterior color palette is shared with the Ford Mustang, so you can choose between the following:

-* Dark Matter Gray Metallic

-* Rapid Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat

-* Star White Metallic Tri-Coat

-* Grabber Blue Metallic
