While drag racing fast cars only tells you so much about their performance capabilities, it’s always fun to see who comes out on top. Currently, these four – the Acura NSX Type S, Nissan GT-R Nismo, Chevrolet C8 Corvette, and Porsche 911 Turbo S – are some of the hottest high-performance cars on the market. 'Throttle House' arranged for them to meet for a drag race. Can the C8 Corvette punch above its weight against the turbocharged opponents?

The track isn’t big enough for all four cars so the Nissan, Acura, and Chevrolet go first. The Acura and Nissan both pack 600 horsepower since both borrow their twin-turbochargers from their respective GT3 racing versions. Both cars are almost on par in terms of weight and torque figures – 3,86 pounds (1,754 kg) and 481 pound-feet (652 Nm) for the GT-R Nismo versus 3,946 pounds (1,790 kg) and 492 pound-feet (667 Nm). Acura’s extra weight comes from the three electric motors – two at the front and one between the 10-speed automatic and the twin-turbo V-6.

The C8 Corvette is the only naturally-aspirated car here. Its 6.2-liter pushrod V-8 has the most displacement of the bunch and should have the best response. Its 495 horsepower (the extra five coming from the optional performance exhaust) and 470 pound-feet (637 Nm) are far less than the others, but get it right and the 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) can take 2.9 seconds.

The Porsche 911 (992) Turbo S has the most power and torque here – 650 horsepower and 590 pound-feet (800 Nm). Its PDK transmission is also the quickest of the bunch and the rear-engine layout, combined with sophisticated launch control allows the Turbo S to reach 60 mph (97 km/h) in 2.6 seconds. At 3,549 pounds (1,610 kg), it doesn’t weigh much more than the C8 Corvette’s 3,500 pounds (1,588 kg).

To see how these figures translate onto the tarmac, watch the video below. While the end winner is not exactly unexpected, some of the cars put up a better fight than expected, considering the horsepower and price difference.
