Genesis launched the G70 in Seoul back in September of 2017, and we’ve been waiting for it to cross the pond so that the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C-Class would have some real competition. Outside of the exterior styling and lush interior, the U.S.-bound G70 comes with the same powertrain options as well – a 2.0-liter that’s good for 252 horsepower or a 365-horsepower 3.3-liter V-6. Like its German competition, rear-wheel drive is the standard configuration while the right option box will get you AWD. There’s even the possibility of a six-speed manual if you get the right model.

Genesis G70 in Brief

We’ve already seen the Genesis G70 and, since it has all of the same specs, everything will be quite familiar to you. Like it’s Korean-bound counterpart, the U.S.-spec G70 is slated to be a true driver’s car. If you go with the RWD 2.0T model, you can even have a six-speed gearbox. Of course, you’re deprived of that 365-horsepower 3.3-liter but the 252 ponies afforded by that turbo four isn’t exactly something cry about either. If you go with the eight-speed auto transmission, you’ll get a launch control system that should help you get off the line quicker, but if you go with the sport-tuned automatic, you can get paddle shifters. There’s even a limited-slip differential available with the “dynamic package,” and 3.3T models will come with electronically controlled suspension for a slightly better ride.

Of course, you get Hyundai’s full range of safety features and the G70 is fully customizable to each person who takes the helm, all of the way down to things like engine response, torque distribution, and suspension give. If you go with the 19-inch wheels, you’ll get Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires, and you can even opt for high-performance Brembo brakes -- see, like I said, it can be a true driver’s car, you just have to pony up some extra dough for it.

Now, that I’ve given you the general breakdown of the U.S.-Spec model, it’s up to you to determine if the G70 actually gives you a better bang for your buck. Check out our full review to find out for yourself!
