Europe’s wagon market just got a little bit bigger, as Korean brand Genesis is looking to take its piece of the pie with the all-new G70 Shooting Brake. Of course, it’s not a shooting brake as you or I would think of it – as in it only has two doors – so it’s really just another wagon. A fine looking wagon, at that. Featuring the G70’s sporty front end paired with a sloping rear roof and tons of cargo room, the G70 Shooting Brake has a lot to offer. Unfortunately, it won’t land in the United States because, well, we’re SUV people, right?

The Genesis G70 Shooting Brake Isn’t Heading To The United States, And That’s a Shame

In fairness, the concept of wagons on the road died in the U.S. a long time ago outside of a handful of models like the Volvo V60 and V90, the Subaru Outback, Mercedes E-Class Wagon, and the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo, among just a few others. Over in Europe, though, it seems as if damn near everything that isn’t an SUV is offered as a wagon, aside from a select few. This explains why the Genesis G70 Shooting Brake is a European only affair, but it sure is sad we can’t taste the forbidden fruit.

Genesis hasn’t disclosed drivetrain options yet, but considering how little Genesis changed the G70 to morph it into a wagon, it should offer the same powertrain options as the sedan. That means there will be a 2.0-liter, turbocharged, four-banger with 249 horsepower, a 365-horsepower, twin-turbo V-6, and a 2.2-liter diesel that’s good for 199 horsepower.

The similarities will carry over into the interior too, so the G70 Shooting Brake will feature the same seats, infotainment system, and the free-standing infotainment system that’s super easy to use. The real difference comes in the way of cargo room, which is also a bit surprising. Despite the fact that the G70 shooting brake has identical dimensions to the sedan, it has an impressive amount of cargo space – 40-percent more to be exact. The rear seats also fold down for expandable luggage room with a 40:20:40 split. As of now, European pricing isn’t available, but the G70 Shooting Brake is expected to launch summer of 2021, after the G70, G80, GV70, and GV80. Unfortunately, there are no plans for a U.S. launch, but we can still hope, right?
