Genesis has finally stepped on the A-pedal. Launches are happening often now, and we’d like to see the trend continue because the products coming out of the oven are pretty good. Hyundai’s luxury brand recently unveiled the GV80 SUV, and now it has taken the wraps off its sporty crossover, the GV70. Given how the compact SUV/crossover market is booming, this might be one of the most important products in Genesis’ portfolio. Can it become the company’s best-seller?

How’s The GV70 On The Outside?

The GV70 becomes the fifth Genesis-branded product that one can buy today. The automaker has three sedans and a full-sized SUV in its lineup, thus making the GV70 the best option for customers who don’t want to go to either end of the spectrum. The aesthetic appearance is quite striking, thanks to the signature Crest grille and the split-headlamp setup.

The sloping coupe-like roofline at the back and the stylized C- and D-pillar add to the oomph factor. The round wheel arches are wide, thus making the wheels look a size small in the images. Wheels up to 21 inches will be offered on the GV70, but we aren't sure which ones are equipped on the model shows in the images.

The rear also gives the low-slung illusion, primarily because the rear windshield and the rear-quarter glass aren’t in proportion. To further add the sporty SUV vibe, skid plates are added at the front and back. This design philosophy, by the way, is called “Athletic Elegance” in Genesis’ speak.

Feels Premium On The Inside

The cabin looks plush and luxurious, but the two-spoke steering wheel will draw polarizing opinions. The touchscreen infotainment system sits on the dash and looks to be the same 14.5-inch unit seen on the GV80. The same goes for the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster as well. If we go by the pictures, the GV70 will have most of the features of the GV80 and the only difference will be that the latter will be available with an optional third row.

Genesis GV70 Sport Package

Genesis will be offering a Sport package when the GV70 goes on sale. It will feature:

-* Unique front bumper

-* 21-inch G-Matrix pattern-applied wheels

-* Black chrome accents

-* Larger exhaust pipes

-* Sport steering wheel

-* Carbon-fiber appointed consoles and doors

-* Exclusive colors and trims inside the cabin

The Sport package could come with Michelin Pilot Sport tires, whereas the other trims will ride on Michelin Primacy Tour all-season tires.

There’s no information on the drivetrain options, but we do know that it is based on the same platform as the G70 sedan. This means it will be offered in a rear-wheel-drive avatar as standard and perhaps, all-wheel-drive as an option. If the engines are carried over from the G70, then we can expect a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged mill, and a 3.3-liter, V-6 twin-turbo mill to be offered on the GV70 as well. These engines churn out 252 and 365 horses respectively.

Final Thoughts

The Genesis GV70 will arrive at the dealerships in the States sometime in 2021. Further details will be revealed closer to the launch date. As for the pricing, it could be priced slightly lower than its German counterparts, which puts the starting price somewhere around $38,000. What do you have to say about the Genesis GV70?
