The Hennessey Venom F5 recently performed a high-speed test in its pursuit to reach that goal of breaking the 300 mph barrier, and the results are spectacular. John Hennessy gives us a quick update on the progress made so far with the Venom F5 testing program.

The Test Run

The Hennessey Venom F5, which is still under development, recently completed a (271.6 mph). This video makes us believe that it won’t be long before we see 300 mph on the clocks of the F5 in a few months' time.

After several tests at Hennessey’s own Pennzoil Proving Ground and about four runway tests over the past year, back in February, the Hennessey team was there at the Johnny Bohmer Proving Ground, (the 3.2-mile test track in Florida where NASA used to land the space shuttle) fine-tune the suspension, brakes, and aerodynamics of the F5.

The American Hypercar could be seen smoothly surpassing 270 mph in a video published by Hennessey Performance. It also managed to go past the Venom GT's 435 kph record established nearly a decade ago. The Venom F5 hit a staggering 271.6 mph (437 km/h).

What’s Under the Hood

If the Texas-based tuner feels they can reach such speeds, it's partly because of what's beneath the hood: a 6.6-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine with a maximum output of 1,817 horsepower. Not bad for a vehicle weighing only 1,360 kilos (2,998 pounds).

300 mph isn’t too far away

After the 24 cars have been sold for a long time, Hennessey intends to build a 25th car capable of going beyond 300 mph. For the time being, Hennessey will not attempt to break the speed record, but will instead focus on delivering the car to consumers - 12 lucky customers will receive their cars before the end of the year.

Expect to see the F5 at annual events like Pebble Beach, the Quail, and exotics on Broadway. The Venom F5 is not just on its way to becoming the fastest American car, but also the world's fastest production car. Watch this space.
