The new generation Honda Civic Type R had everyone's imagination going wild. And for very good reason: the car has an amazing exterior look and, while we don't have the official specs just yet, it comes with the promise of being the "most powerful Civic Type R ever." While the official model is offered as a five-door hatch only, soon after its launch The Sketch Monkey reimagined it as a sports coupe with a rear-wheel-drive configuration. Now, Youtuber “Theottle” came up with a better idea: a Type R sedan!

Making a Case for the Civic Type R Sedan

The result of turning the Civic Type R into a sedan is amazing. Of course, there was a lot of work to transform the hatch into a sedan, but in the end it was worth it. He had to completely reshape the rear doors and the rear fender, he widened the track, and added a huge wing. If Honda builds the sedan, it will have to work on improving the weight distribution - as it has to be better in sedan form. The suspension and the brakes should also be revised, new wheels are required, and maybe the exterior appearance should be a little bit sportier.

It won’t be such a bad idea for Honda to offer a Civic Type R sedan, especially when Toyota is also considering a GR Corolla sedan. The Type R sedan should be offered with the same powerplant as the hatchback. And, even if Honda didn't reveal specs just yet, the previous generation Civic Type R should offer us a pretty good idea of what to expect. The latter was powered by a 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivered 306 horses at 6,500 rpm and 295 pound-feet of torque between 2,500 and 4,500 rpm. With Honda's promise for the new Type R to be the most powerful ever, we expect an output of about 325 - 330 horsepower. This would be a little bit more powerful than the possible GR Corolla, which should deliver the same as the hatch: 300 horsepower. No matter the engine tune, the new Type R will be offered with a six-speed manual transmission - the perfect match for a sports sedan. Such a configuration will put a lot of German cars - like the Audi S3, for example - in a lot of trouble.

Only time will tell if designs like this will inspire Honda to offer more than the classic Civic Type R, but a sedan will be such a nice addition to its lineup.
