Chinese carmakers are not playing around and Silk-FAW’s recently-acquired Italian know-how proves that.

If you had any doubts that Chinese carmakers are being serious, this will definitely put them to rest. We have known about the Hongqi S9 Chinese supercar, which will be made in Italy, for a while now, but the plot is thickening. Now we’ve learned that the hybrid supercar is styled by the same man responsible for the Audi R8 – Walter da Silva - who is now Silk-FAW’s vice president of styling and design. But that’s not all. Silk-FAW – the joint venture responsible for the S9 – appoints Amedeo Felisa, who is a former Ferrari CEO and Board Member.

Felisa and his 26 years of experience at the Prancing Horse will be invaluable for the Chinese carmaker. Moreover, Silk-FAW disclosed that Amedeo Felisa “will be involved in setting global strategy for the company and will provide oversight on all elements of the execution of the company’s business plan.”

As for the business plan itself, it revolves around “high-quality, ultra-luxurious sports cars” that will also be global models.

The company’s electric and hybrid cars will be produced in China and Silk’s headquarters in Emilia-Romagna, Italy.

Born in 1992, I come from a family of motoring enthusiasts. My passion for cars was awoken at the age of six, when I saw a Lamborghini Diablo SV in a magazine. After high school I earned a master’s degree in marketing and a Master of Arts in Media and Communications. Over the years, I’ve practiced and become skilled in precision driving and to date have test driven more than 250 cars across the globe. Over the years, I’ve picked up basic mechanical knowledge and have even taken part in the restoration of a 1964 Jaguar E-Type and an Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint. Lately, I’ve taken a fancy to automotive photography, and while modern cars are my primary passion, I also have a love for Asian Martial Arts, swimming, war history, craft beer, historical weapons, and car restoration. In time, I plan my own classic car restoration and hope to earn my racing certificate, after which I expect to establish my own racing team.  Read full bio
