The GMC Yukon is probably not the first vehicle that you think of when you want to go racing at the drag strip. The owner of this second-gen Yukon, though, had other ideas.

Sleeper GMC Yukon

Now, unfortunately, the Drag Racing and Car Stuff Channel that put out this video didn’t have the exact specs on hand. The description did mention the word 'Turbo'. But, apart from that, what’s lurking under the hood remains a mystery. GM had a range of GAS V8s on offer for this generation, from a small 4.8-liter mill to a mammoth 6.2-liter unit.

This Yukon took on a couple of Mustangs, a Volkswagen Golf GTi, and a KIA Stinger. Long story short, it destroyed them all with a ¼ mile time of mid- to high 11 seconds.

It finally went up against a stablemate. This time around, a couple of generations younger - a Steely blue Chevy Camaro ZL1. The two cars line up at the Christmas tree after burning up some rubber. The lights go out and both cars unleash their fury down the straight.

The Yukon gets an early lead, however. By the mid-way point, the ZL1 starts to reel in the GMC, but there just wasn’t enough room for the Chevy to get past the SUV. The Yukon managed to fend off a serious sports car with an impressive 11.4-second pass, against the ZL1's 11.6-second time.

Final Thoughts

Given this Yukon’s modest and humble looks, people would be hard-pressed to believe that for something that weighs somewhere in the region of 5000 pounds, this thing actually shifts and eats sports cars for breakfast.

Well, that's the beauty of sleepers, I suppose. To retain a bone stock look and catch out unsuspecting prey. The last thing you want to do is pull up at the lights next to this old beater.
