BMW's entire X5 and X6 lineup will receive some serious updates for the 2023 model year. Prototypes of both models have been caught testing many times before - in both standard and M versions - but, the one spotted today reveals new details on the facelift X5.

BMW is still very careful about covering both the front and the rear end, but, for the first time, we can see the new taillight graphics. And, while we were expecting the graphics to be inspired by the recently launched X7, it seems that BMW will go for a different design.

In general, it appears that the facelift X5 will maintain its own look, even though there will be some cues borrowed from the new generation 7 Series, the new X7, or the future XM. For example, unlike the X7, the facelift X5 will not adopt the split headlights design. Instead, it will go for a larger, slightly updated versions of the current ones.

The biggest updates for the facelift X5 will happen under the hood. Previous rumors suggest that the entire lineup will see an increase in power: the base X5 xDrive40i will go up to 370 horsepower, and the X5 xDrive45e will go up to 480 horsepower thanks to a hybrid powertrain borrowed from the newly launched 7 Series. On the other hand, the M50i will be replaced by a new M60i version. This new version, together with the facelift X5 M, (and, of course, the X6 M) will be powered by the same S68 engine.

In the current X5 M models, the S63 engine delivers a total of 523 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. For the facelift version, rumors suggest that the numbers will be increased to as much as 750 horsepower. This means that while the X5 M will be pushed up on the market, the M60i could be a replacement for the current X5 M, so maybe it will deliver around 550 horsepower.

Expect the facelift BMW X5 facelift to be unveiled later in 2022, with sales to begin in 2023.
