With both the i4 and the i7 revealed, BMW will focus its attention on developing the next i5. Prototypes of the electric version of the 5 Series were spotted out in the wild for quite some time now, but the latest ones reveal a few more details.

Since the development of the next i5 continues, the new prototypes received the production headlights for the first time.

Despite the heavy camouflage, we can easily spot that the i5's headlights will not adopt the split design we have seen in the recently launched i7. Instead, BMW opted for a more traditional look - similar to what the i4 revealed. Also, the DRLs and indicators follow the latest design seen in the BMW models.

Another good news is that while the front end looks mean and angry, the shark nose and the kidneys won't be massive - unlike the i7 and the i4.

The new i5 will take on models like the While Mercedes-Benz opted for a coupe-like profile, the i5 will adopt a traditional sedan look. Thank God, as the world does not need another four-door coupe! And, since we are talking about the body style, we know that the next-generation 5 Series will also offer a Touring version, but at this point it is unclear if the same will happen to the i5.

While the i5 seems to have a completely different interior when compared to the i7, the interior on the other hand seems strongly inspired by it. The first spy shots reveal that the i5 will get the same pair of screens: a 12.3-inch digital display combined with a 14.9-inch infotainment screen. The latest iDrive8 technology will also be part of the deal.

As for what will happen under the hood, it remains unclear whether the i5 will inherit the powertrains of the BMW i4 or i7. But, just a reminder, the latest i7 is offered only in an xDrive 60 version that offers a combined output of 536 horsepower and 549 pound-feet of torque. Later on, there will also be an i7 M70 xDrive with an output of 597 horsepower and 737 pound-feet of torque.

The new generation 5 Series, along with the i5, will be revealed sometime in 2023 as a 2024 model.
