Microsoft and Turn 10 Studios have proven themselves adept at being purveyors of fun and excitement when it comes to injecting a little wackiness into the Forza video game franchise. This time, the developers of the Forza Horizon 4 are venturing off the beaten path into a world where blocky cars and blocky race tracks reign supreme. Following the success of the Hot Wheels expansion pack on Forza Horizon 3, Microsoft has teamed up with LEGO to unleash the LEGO Speed Champions Expansion Pack. Microsoft dropped the bombshell news at the 2019 E3 Gaming Expo. The Lego Speed Champions DLC for Forza Horizon 4 launches June 13.

I wasn’t particularly excited when Microsoft announced the LEGO Speed Champions Pack at E3 2019. The news barely registered when I first heard about it, and it still doesn’t excite me now that I’ve had time to process it.

Ok, so I barely made it to two sentences trying to sound like I didn’t care about this expansion. But it’s not true. Far from it, actually. Not only do I care about the LEGO Speed Champions Pack coming to Forza Horizon 4, I’m excited that it’s actually happening. I know some of you aren’t as thrilled about it because it’s perceived to be gimmicky, but I don’t care. Video games are supposed to be fun, and I can’t imagine anything more fun than driving LEGO versions of the McLaren Senna, Ferrari F40, and Dodge Challenger in a LEGO racetrack Forza Horizon 4 the world of Forza Horizon 4.

We still don’t know the full contents of the expansion pack, but Microsoft did release a 1:24-long video showing what we can expect from the LEGO Speed Champions Pack. A McLaren Senna soon appears trying to make a left turn on one of the intersections only to abruptly stop as a parade of LEGO vehicles, including a LEGO version of the Senna passes by. From there, the video turns into a minute-long spectacle of LEGO cars racing against actual cars as the delightful LEGO Movie theme song, “Everything is Awesome” blares in the background. If Microsoft was looking to hype us into submission with the teaser video, then consider it a job well done. I’m so hyped right now I probably wouldn’t be able to check myself until the pack becomes available on June 13. That’s literally three days away!

Before that happens, let’s talk about what we can expect from the LEGO Speed Champions Pack. We know that it will include a number of LEGO vehicles that will become playable in inside LEGO versions of the Mercedes Unimog also appear in the video. Don’t close the door on the possibility of seeing other cars from the LEGO Speed Champions series appear in the game. Perhaps we’ll be able to drive a LEGO version of the Bugatti Chiron? Maybe the Mercedes-AMG GT, Chevrolet Corvette Z06, Ford Fiesta M-Sport WRC, Porsche 911 RSR, Porsche 911 Turbo 3.0, and the 1969 Ford Mustang Fastback will also be included in the game. No one knows at the moment, at least apart from Microsoft and LEGO. It’s worth noting, though, that all the cars mentioned are also included in the LEGO Speed Champions series. Something to get excited about?

As for the rest of the expansion pack, we can look forward to a LEGO-themed world that will feature its own seasonal changes as both the base Forza game and the Fortune Island world. Weekly challenges will also be a part of the gameplay, though most of us might need to get used to seeing destructible LEGO brick structures in a lot of familiar race tracks. Not to be outdone, the expansion pack also includes LEGO-specific venues, including the exciting Super Mega Awesome Adventure Stunt Park and the sale of new destruction and speed ramp challenges. Judging by its name, I expect a lot of LEGO cars — and real cars — in that venue once the pack becomes available.

This particular element of the expansion pack represents the perfect marriage between the people behind LEGO and inside You get to race LEGO cars to earn bricks through the Brick Challenge. Win enough of them, and you can build your own LEGO brick house all the way to the point where you become a certified Master Builder. It’s car racing and LEGO-making, all rolled into one exciting video game experience.

Another notable feature of the LEGO Speed Champions Pack is the addition of its own radio station, called “Radio Awesome.” The station is probably best-suited for kids, in part because it only plays “Everything is Awesome” in a constant loop. I love the song, but if that’s all I’m hearing from this new radio station, I might have to pass on it. Still, it’s a great addition to what’s shaping up to be one of the most highly anticipated expansion packs for inside

The LEGO Speed Champions Pack doesn’t come free, at least not for those who own a standard version of the Forza Horizon 4 game. AS for the rest of us, we’re going to need to shell out $19.99 to gain access to this incredible game. Mark your calendars, folks. But if you want to jump on the front of line, you can actually pre-order to pack as early as right now. Just remember that when you’re deciding to make that purchase, go watch the trailer again and ask yourself if that wasn’t about as cool a thing you’ve ever seen in this game. Everything is awesome, indeed!
