Find out how long this will be in effect
by Isaac Atienza, onThe Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz have once again made compact pickup trucks popular. However, it seems Ford is not able to keep up with the popularity of its Maverick as it recently suspended orders for its own take on the compact pickup.
A member of the Maverick Truck Club was able to receive a dealership memo that says that Ford is suspending orders for the Maverick. This will take effect until this summer when the 2023 model year vehicles are announced, and it applies to both the hybrid and EcoBoost variants.
The memo says that dealers only have until January 27 to submit orders for the EcoBoost model, while orders for the hybrid model were already closed since November. This means that those looking for the Maverick won’t be able to configure their own pickup, which means you can only rely on what’s left at dealer lots.
A statement was made to CarBuzz by Vehicle Communications Manager for Ford North America, Mike Levine, which says:
"There's been overwhelming demand for Maverick - both hybrid and EcoBoost. We're making the decision to stop taking new retail orders on the 2022 Ford Maverick starting after January 27 to focus on existing orders. Customers may still be able to purchase a Maverick on the lot at their local Ford dealer. We'll kick off ordering for the 2023 Maverick starting in the summer. We also will keep a list of hand-raisers, to notify customers when Maverick ordering reopens."
Ford has been on a roll lately with its vehicle launches. From the recently-unveiled Bronco Raptor to the F-150 Lightning—in which it already has 200,000 pre-orders—all of its new vehicles have proven to be extremely popular with American customers. This extraordinary demand for Ford’s vehicles will undoubtedly push dealers to mark up the prices of its vehicles, which is already an issue in the automotive industry.
