Born on 21 April 1926, Elizabeth II became the Queen of England on February 6, 1952, after her father King George VI passed away. 70 years have passed since then, and Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II - now aged 96 - is both the oldest and longest-reigning British monarch.

To honor this special moment, U.K.-based McLaren Automotive designed a one-off example of the McLaren Artura – the company’s first hybrid supercar.

The Artura is already an amazing car, so there is nothing much you can change about it. But, McLaren Special Operations (MSO), McLaren’s in-house bespoke division, has developed a special platinum silver “Platinum Jubilee” finish. Why platinum silver? The explanation is simple: usually, the 70th anniversary is considered the platinum anniversary.

MSO analyzed the paint in different lighting conditions to define the most suitable metallic pigment combination. The entire process of analyzing and painting the Artura took eight days to complete, including durability and application testing.

Also, for this special Artura, the traditional McLaren badge was removed and replaced by a unique Elizabeth II badge made from materials that will match the rest of the exterior body.

As a reminder, the McLaren Artura is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 paired with a single electric motor. The V-6 delivers a total of 585 horsepower, while the electric motor adds another 95 horsepower. Combined, the Artura delivers 680 horsepower and 530 pound-feet of torque. All the power is sent to the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. The Artura goes from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.0 seconds and up to a top speed of 205 mph. It also offers an electric-only range of 19 miles.

And, if you were wondering why McLaren didn’t reveal this one-off Artura in February and waited until now to do it, the explanation is simple: May 12 also marked 18 years since Her Majesty opened the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, Surrey.

"It has been an honour for MSO to create a new platinum paint in celebration of Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee this year. This special paint, which will be available for customers to select for years to come, will be a fitting tribute to mark this historic milestone."
