If I were to ask you the similarities between the Mercedes-AMG A45 S and the new Toyota Supra, you’ll quickly dismiss them as vehicles from different genres. One is a hot, practical hatch that can seat four, and one is a fun car that can seat just two. One is an all-wheel-drive, whereas the other is a rear-wheel-drive car. So, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that a person in the market for the A45 S won’t consider the Supra in most cases and vice versa.

But, Motor has uploaded a video on its YouTube channel where the host talks about the similarities between the German and the Japanese (well, half-Japanese), and surprisingly, there are quite a few.

They Are Almost On Par In Terms Of Performance

The Mercedes-AMG A45 S comes packed with a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged engine that makes 421 horses and 369 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to all the wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The Supra makes 368 pound-feet of twist and 382 horses from its V-6.

Yes, the V-6 engine is heavier, but it powers only the rear wheels here, unlike the A45 S which comes with an all-wheel-drive system, thus negating the weight advantage to a certain extent. In pure numbers, the Supra, despite its V-6, is 300-plus pounds lighter than the AMG hatch.

Both the cars have a 0-60 mph time of 3.9 seconds and come with launch controls. The folks at Motor pit them against each other in multiple drag races, some with launch control, some without, rolling tests, and brake tests to ascertain the winner.
