The AMG version of the next Mercedes-Benz CLE has been caught testing for the first time back in February 2022 when it was playing in the heavy snow of Sweden. Now, with the weather getting warmer, the CLE 63 is one step closer to being tested around Nürburgring. Our spy photographers caught one prototype near an AMG test center around the ring.
The prototype caught testing today is still wearing a lot of camouflage and it still features a lot of fake panels - which means this is an early version of the CLE 63. Not even the exhaust is real yet!
The prototype does feature a wider track and has bigger brakes when compared to the other CLE prototypes caught testing. It is missing one important clue, though. Rumors suggest that the next CLE 63 will be a hybrid car, but this prototype is missing the yellow sticker usually used for hybrid prototypes.
Rumors suggest that the AMG CLE 63 will probably come with the same turbocharged four-cylinder engine found in the A45 AMG paired with a 93-horsepower electric motor mounted on the rear axle. While the gasoline engine will deliver 400 horsepower, the electric motor can produce as much as 200 horsepower for short periods of time. The system will also be equipped with a 6.1 kWh battery pack - the same rumored to be used in the next C-Class.
The new CLE lineup should make its official debut sometime in 2023, with sales to begin in 2024.
