The Tesla Model S Plaid has been in the news ever since it came to life. It is undoubtedly the king of drag strips and has proven its might enough number of times in the past. Whether it’s the McLaren 765 LT, the Porsche Taycan Turbo S, the Nissan GT-R, the Dodge Demon, or heck, even a 1,200-horsepower Mustang GT500; the Plaid has obliterated all of them.
But, in the midst of all this, we’ve forgotten what a beast the standard Tesla Model S is. But, the folks at Carwow have reminded us of the EV’s prowess on the drag strip by pitting it against the Mercedes-Benz S-Class S500.
The Model S Is Superior Even On Paper
The S-Class weighs 4,553 pounds, around 500 pounds lighter than the Model S which weighs 5,049 pounds.
In the first race, the S-Class seemed to have gotten a decent start, but it was soon shown its place by the Model S. Mind you, this isn’t even the Plaid version. The Tesla overtook the Mercedes like it was standing still. In the end, the Mercedes finished the quarter-mile race in 13.6 seconds, over a second slower than the Tesla which took 12.2 seconds.
Next up was the rolling race from 30 mph. The S-Class was again humiliated as the Model S left it in the dust. The result was no different when they started from 80 mph in the next rolling race. To be honest, the German was gaining speeds at a pretty good rate for a luxurious family sedan. But, the instantaneous torque and a whole lot of extra horses did the trick for the Tesla.
The final round was the brake test from 70 mph, and this was the only test that the Mercedes could win.
