The Audi A6 Allroad Quattro is the perfect example of a sleeper success. The wagon has never been promoted as fiercely as its siblings, yet, it has been slowly and consistently ticking the sales clock for 20 years now. Yes, two decades! The Audi A6 Allroad Quattro made its debut in 1999 and was essentially the offroad version of the company's station wagon. 20 years later, the fourth generation of the A6 Allroad Quattro is being launched, and it couldn't have come at a better time.

Audi Has A Reputation To Maintain

Companies have been hitting new highs of being niche quite successfully. People who wanted the practicality of a SUV but with driving dynamics of a sedan opted for wagons. However, wagons were not conventionally considered as 'fast vehicles', or something that can be taken off-road. But, when the company launched the Audi Allroad Quattro back in 1999, it filled that void. Back then, it did not have 'A6' in its moniker. The Audi A6 Allroad Quattro is the go-to vehicle for people who want the practicality of a wagon, but with a hint of fun off-roading as well.

The fourth-gen Audi A6 Allroad Quattro comes with all-wheel drive and adaptive air suspension as standard. Audi has also played it smart by adding extra black cladding that not only saves it from small bumps and hits but also a lot of character overall. The German automaker has added aluminum-look finished underbody protection that is actually seen when the wagon is in action. The contrasting sill trims on the sides come with Allroad logos.

As Luxurious As Ever On The Inside

Coming to the interior, the Audi A6 Allroad Quattro is available in three interior shades – black, pearl beige, and okapi brown. Irrespective of the color you choose, the seats are upholstered in black cloth and partial leather. The best of the lot is an Allroad Line option that allows you to have sport seats made of an Alcantara and leather combination finished in petrol gray and black and black colors. This package also offers pedals trimmed in aluminum, and illuminated door sill trims with logo projection, to name a few. Audi also offers a 12.3-inch infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

When Will We Get More Engine Options Here?

The new Audi A6 Allroad Quattro is expected to carry the same engine under the hood as the present model. The engine is available in three different states of tune. The first one produces 228 horses and 369 pound-feet of torque that helps the wagon sprint from a naught to 60 mph in 6.7 seconds. The next one churns out 282 horses and 457 pound-feet of torque that sprints to 60 mph from a standstill in 5.9 seconds. The final and the most powerful power tune that develops 345 ponies and 516 pound-feet of torque. This one zooms from 0 to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds!

All the power states are offered with an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic gearbox. Speed governors are installed in all of them that limit the top speed to 155 miles per hour. Goes unsaid that all the engine options come with Quattro permanent all-wheel drive system. People looking for more fun can opt for the sport differential that distributes the power infinitely between the rear wheels that makes the handling and traction all the more dynamic. All the engine options come with mild hybrid technology that works on the basis of a new 48-volt main electrical system.

This wagon can now tow up to 2.5 tons (5000 pounds). Audi has also added hill descent control and tilt angle assist to the A6 Allroad Quattro. Tilt angle assist basically displays the tilt angle in the instrument cluster and also warns the driver if the wagon is at the risk of tipping over. By offering such features, Audi is trying to make a strong case for the A6 Allroad Quattro as a competent off-roader. Nice to see the German offer these features as standard on all the variants.

New Packages Along With An Exclusive Edition

Audi has also said that the fourth-gen Audi A6 Allroad Quattro will come with a lot more customizable options than its predecessor. Two optional packages have already been announced - an Aluminum Exterior Package and the Black Styling Package. This edition is available in White, Brown, and a new Gavial Green color that is quite similar to the color made available on the first model that hit the roads in 1999. It rides on 19-inch wheels and comes with Black sport seats with Alcantara and leather upholstery on the inside. There's no word whether it will be a limited edition or not.

It's Time For A War!

The fourth-gen Audi A6 Allroad Quattro will hit the showrooms in June 2019 in Europe. There is no word on when it will be launched in the U.S., but we are hoping it is by the end of the year. The starting price in Germany is 61,500 Euros (Approx. $70,000). The new Audi A6 Allroad Quattro is definitely an improvement over the predecessor, but we'll hold our comments till it is officially launched in the U.S. With Volvo and Mercedes-Benz upping the ante with their offerings - the V90 Cross Country and E450 Wagon - the rivalry just picked up heat. If you were in the market for a luxurious wagon, which one would you pick? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.
