One of the most important Hollywood cars is about to get the LEGO treatment. In what could be the best LEGO car of all time, the iconic Batmobile from the 1989 Batman movie has now been immortalized in bricks. Otherwise known as the 1989 Tim Burton Batmobile, this LEGO car is a showstopper when fully built and a huge challenge to actually build. It’s made up of 3,306 pieces, which is around 200 fewer pieces than the LEGO Bugatti Chiron. The LEGO Batmobile, which arrives in time for the Tim Burton film’s 30th anniversary and the 80th anniversary of the Batman character, will be released on November 29 (Black Friday) at a price of $250.

About damn time, Batman!

As someone who has spent thousands of dollars scooping up LEGO sets like they’re cartons of milk during the Apocalypse, I find myself transfixed at LEGO’s new product. I can’t, for the life of me, tell you how long I’ve waited for the iconic 1989 Batmobile to get the LEGO treatment. We’ve seen different versions of the Batmobile get LEGO versions. We’ve even seen the Tumbler get its own LEGO version. I’m not opposed to these Batmobiles getting immortalized in LEGO bricks, but if LEGO really wanted to tug the heartstrings of Batman aficionados the world over, there are only two — two! — Batmobiles that are considered the crown jewels. One is the 1960s Batmobile from the Adam West TV series. The other is the 1989 Tim Burton Batmobile from the movie Batman starring Michael Keaton. Looks like we Batman got our wish, folks.

It’s a traditional LEGO piece using — for the most part, at least — traditional LEGO bricks and complementary pieces like a slide-open cockpit, a wraparound windshield, and a pair of hidden machine guns that come with pop-up functions. They’re not loaded, though, so that’s a bummer. There are over 3,300 pieces to work with, though the build is pretty straightforward if you know you’re way around LEGOs. Once built, the 1989 measures an impressive 23 inches long (almost two feet), eight inches wide, and four inches high. The set also includes three Batman mini-figures, including the movie-specific version of Batman (played by Michael Keaton), the Joker (played by Jack Nicholson), and Batman’s love interest in the movie, Vicki Vale (played by Kim Basinger). Everything ties up to what you’d expect from a LEGO version of the 1989 Batmobile.

Looks natural for a LEGO set

Veteran LEGO builders and collectors have come to grips with the reality that not every LEGO car set accurately represents the design of the real car. This is especially true with smaller kits, but it also happens in big sets. Fortunately, the LEGO 1989 Batmobile doesn’t fall under that category. The large bat wings at the back are the same as the movie version Batmobile, as is the Gatling gun sitting in the front. The curves also look clean, especially for a LEGO car of this size.

Prepare to shell out the dough

The LEGO 1989 Batmobile is hitting stores on November 29, Black Friday. It’s priced at $250, which isn’t chump change, but reasonable for the size of the set. Even better, those who purchase the set between November 29 and December 5 will receive an exclusive miniature replica of the new model as a gift, at least until supplies last.
