It has been almost two years since the Maserati GranTurismo went out of production, but a new generation is on its way! The good news is that it will be offered in both gasoline-powered and electric versions. Of course, the first to arrive will be the gasoline-powered version, and the electric one will follow a few months after.

Today, our spy photographers caught the next-generation GranTurismo out for a testing session. The previous mules were hidden under a Alfa Romeo Giulia body, but, the new ones actually show the real deal. Well, at least parts of it!

The best part of the next-gen GranTurismo is that, while it retains its very well known shape, it will evolve into a modern sports car with design elements inspired by the recently launched Maserati MC20.

In the newest spy shots, we get a very clear look at the front end, and we can see the lines and shapes of grille and air intakes. Also, it is very obvious that the headlights design is inspired by the MC20.

The taillights are also slimmer when compared to the previous generation, and they also seem to have moved out a bit around the corner. The exhaust system features quad exhaust pipes, two pipes on each corner, which suggests we are looking at the gasoline-powered model.

Speaking of which, rumors suggest the 2023 GranTurismo will get the same twin-turbo V-6 Nettuno engine from the MC20, but, it will be detuned to less than 621 horsepower for sure. That said, it should be higher than the previous model's 454 horsepower, so maybe we're looking at an output of close to 500 horsepower.

The next generation GranTurismo is expected to debut sometime in 2022, and the electric version will arrive in 2023, perhaps
