Announced for the first time back in 2008, the Q5 has grown over the years to be one of the best-selling SUVs in Audi's lineup. For example, in 2021 Audi sold over 60,000 units in Europe and another 60,000 in the States.

Currently in its second generation, the Q5 is preparing to receive a major makeover, as the third generation is just around the corner.

Our spy photographers caught the first prototypes of the next Q5 out for some testing session on the streets of Europe.

First things first: Audi announced that its future will be all electric. But, it seems like the next-generation Q5 will still be offered with the usual combustion engines. The current spy shots reveal that the next Q5 will still feature an exhaust system, which means regular internal combustion engines. However, things will most likely change after this third generation Q5.

Also, the next generation Q5 will be built on the same platform as the A4, which means the model will grow in size, offering more space for the passengers.

As for the crossover's new design, it is very difficult to see what changes it will bring as Audi did a very good job hiding everything. However, it is clear that the 2024 Q5 will get a new front end, with more angular lines, a new grille and tall vertical intakes. Also, it seems that the next Q5 will not adopt the now famous split-headlight design, which is a good thing, if you ask us.

Since it will be based on the same platform as the A4, it means the Q5 will also get the same engine lineup as the sedan. We are talking about both gasoline and diesel engines, most likely with mild-hybrid as standard. Audi will also offer a few plug-in hybrid versions.

The new generation Q5 is expected to debut in 2023 and go on sale as a 2024 model.
