Today the last Nissan Almera will roll off of the production line at the Nissan car plant in Sunderland, UK, and marks the end of an era of successful car manufacturing in this area, the future for the plant is undecided.

In just about six years more than 115,000 of these cars were built at the state of the art manufacturing plant which employs more than 4,000 workers, who are now fearing for their future as the Almera's replacement is rumoured to be built in France, the plant in Sunderland is in actual fact an automotive success story, built in 1986, this was the height of the trouble times within the UK car industry which at the time had been in such a mess created by bad industrial relations between the Unions and the plants owners.

The Nissan Almera is to be replaced with a new modern design away from the old values that had been the criteria for the Almera in the first place. The Nissan Note and Qashqai are step in a different direction and make the Nissan Almera look and feel like something from a different era.
