Being a toned-down version of the Maxima, the Altima has been one of the most value-for-money compact sedans with a starting price lower than $25,000. And while it is Nissan’s go-to budget car, it receives a few updates for 2023 to keep it fresh and modern. For example, the exterior has a sportier appearance with an updated grille, front bumper, new wheel designs, and two new exterior colors. However, the cabin design remains mostly unchanged. But a new 12.3-inch infotainment display is standard on the SL and SR, while available as an option for the SV. A set of new driver assistance features are added to the list, too, including automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and blindspot monitoring.

The updated Altima for 2023 receives a new front-end design. This design enlarges the signature V-Motion grille and houses the new brand logo of Nissan. In addition, the fake side vents are now more prominent, but serve no purpose apart from design influence. Furthermore, LED headlights will now come equipped on all Altima trims and of the same design as the pre-facelift models. However, the headlight graphics seem slightly different from the model it will replace.

For the 2023 model year, Nissan has added four new aluminum alloy wheel designs: 17-inch wheels for the SV while there are 19-inch wheels for the SR, SL, and SR VC-Turbo. In addition, two new color schemes, Garnett Pearl Metallic and Gray Sky Pearl, join the Altima lineup.

The cabin features Nissan’s signature zero gravity seats from the previous model year, and an eight-inch infotainment system is offered as a standard fitment. However, a vital cabin feature that saw a huge update is the optional 12.3-inch infotainment display, the same as the flagship Armada SUV. With this display, you will benefit from wireless Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto, and a navigation system. Other valuable features include a wireless charging pad and a Wi-Fi hotspot. The 12.3-inch display is available for the SV, while being standard on the SL and SR VC-Turbo.

Nissan’s in-house driver assistance tech, ProPilot Assist, is optional on the SR and SV, but comes standard with the SL, like before. However, Safety Shield 360 adds many features, which were previously available with options. All Altimas benefit from these features: automatic high beams, blindspot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear automated emergency braking, and lane-departure warning.

Like before, the powertrain options are either a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated inline-four or a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four. The former is available as standard with a power output of 188 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque. The engine is mated to a CVT and drives either the front wheels or all four wheels. However, choosing the AWD Altima will drop the power down to 182 horses and 178 pound-feet of torque. The more powerful 2.0-liter VC-Turbo puts out 248 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, but no all-wheel-drive option is available.

The facelifted 2023 Altima will go on sale later in 2022 and will see a price bump of approximately $2,000. The current 2022 model year starts from $24,900, without the destination charges.
