The Nissan Patrol Is Now 70 Years Old, So Here’s A Special Edition Model To Celebrate It

Do you prefer this over the North American Armada?

The Nissan Patrol, which is sold as the Armada in the United States, has already been on the global market for 70 years. The first model rolled off the Japanese assembly line in 1951, and it was originally based on the Willys Jeep.

Today, however, the Patrol is far different from its humble origins, and this new 70th Anniversary model is more opulent than ever. The Patrol is the most popular full-size SUV in the Middle East, making it the perfect venue to launch and sell the limited edition variant of Nissan’s flagship SUV.

The 2022 Nissan Patrol 70th Anniversary model celebrates the nameplate’s birth which stretches back from 1951.

The 2022 Nissan Patrol 70th Anniversary model sets itself apart with its large chrome V-Motion grille, added chrome exterior detailing, and new 20-inch machine-cut alloy wheels. The exterior upgrades are very subtle, which is why Nissan deemed it necessary to add a 70th Anniversary logo on the SUV’s side fender vents.

Thankfully, the interior changes of the Nissan Patrol 70th Anniversary are more pronounced. The interior is now finished in burgundy quilted leather upholstery, while new for all 2022 Patrols for the Middle East is a redesigned center console. The main highlight is an all-new 12.3-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto connectivity along with new 10.1-inch rear dual entertainment screens. Sounds are then played through a 13-speaker Bose sound system.

Two engine options are available—a 4.0-liter V6 or the same 5.6-liter V8 that powers the American-market Nissan Armada

Two engine options are available for the Nissan Patrol 70th Anniversary. The base engine choice is a 4.0-liter V-6 that produces 275 horsepower and 290 pound-feet of torque. A bigger 5.6-liter V-8 that also powers the Armada is also available, and it is rated to produce the same 400 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque. Both engines are mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission, driving all four wheels.

The Nissan Intelligent Mobility suite of advanced driver-assistance tech also comes as standard in the Patrol 70th Anniversary, and this includes the following features:

  • Intelligent Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection
  • Intelligent Lane Intervention
  • Intelligent Blind Spot Intervention
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert with Intelligent Intervention
  • Intelligent Cruise Control.

This comes on top of features such as a digital rearview mirror and a 360-degree around-view camera system.

Want one? Well, too bad, because this will be limited to the Middle East. It will have a starting price of AED 199,900 (around $54,424). Based on these features and enhancements, do you wish for Nissan to sell this limited-edition Patrol in the United States, or is the Armada a better SUV? After all, if opulence is what you’re after, a luxury version of the Armada is being sold as the Infiniti QX80 here in the United States.
