It’s been a while since we heard anything about the upcoming Porsche 911 Dakar - or, as we use to know it until recently as the 911 Safari. The 911 Dakar name was tagged by Walter Röhrl himself in an Instagram post that was shortly after removed. Anyway, it seems that Porsche took the 911 Dakar out for some more testing, and this time, in a more appropriate environment: the Nürburgring race track.
Do not expect the future 911 Dakar to be anything like the Singer ACS - as many of you were hoping. No, the 911 Dakar will be just a regular 911 with a raised suspension and some mechanical updates.
Other than the increased ride height, when compared to a regular 911, you can also spot different front and rear bumpers, new air intakes in the engine hood, and wider side sills. The exhaust system also has different end pipes. In the model, you can also spot a small rear wing - similar to some of the non-turbo 911 models.
As for the engine, we expect the 911 Dakar to be offered with the same flat-six engine from the 911 Carrera 4S. In this model, the engine delivers a total of 444 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque. When equipped with the PDK transmission, the 4S goes from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds, but we expect the 911 Dakar to be a tad slower - maybe in the 3.5 seconds region.
Expect the new 911 Dakar to be officially announced in the next six months.
