With every new 911 generation, Porsche conveys pretty much the same message: that the current Neunelfer is the best it can be. The same applies to the 911 Turbo S range topper and to show we’re not just blowing meaningless words in the wind, here’s a video that stamps yet another seal of approval on the current Turbo S’ prowess.

In the right hands, the current 911 Turbo S is a magnificent track tool

Not that we ever doubted a 911’s ability to carve corners and rule supreme over the apexes. But YouTube’s Sport Auto took the 2020 Turbo S for a hot lap on the Hockenheimring, which is the place where the Formula One German Grand Prix takes place, and what came out is nothing less than downright amazing.

This places it in a select group of cars that were also hot-lapped around the same track and on top of out-and-out track monsters such as the Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro (1:48), McLaren 600LT (1:48.9), and Lamborghini Huracán Evo (1:49). On top of that, the Turbo S dethroned two of his siblings, namely the 918 Spyder (1:48.5) and the previous-gen 991.2 Turbo S (1:50).

Now, the fact that the Turbo S beat the McLaren should be no surprise. The German has more power (640 horses compared to 592 in the Macca) and more torque (590 pound-feet as opposed to 457 pound-feet). Its power and torque credentials are even better than the AMG GT’s (577 horsepower, 516 pound-feet) and the Lambo’s (631 horsepower, 443 pound-feet).

The Huracán Evo, however, is available with either rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, but it's unclear which version was put through its paces on the Hockenheimring. We think it was the RWD, though, so we're looking at 602 horsepower and 413 pound-feet.
