The Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo recently captured the attention of the Guinness World Records due to an achievement that will probably be insignificant for most prospective electric vehicle customers (EV) in the first place.

That is unless you always plan to go from low to high altitudes on a regular basis. The Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo has recently set the world record for being the first EV to climb an altitude difference of three miles in one day.

While Badwater Basin in Death Valley is officially the lowest point in America at 282 feet below sea level, Porsche decided to take things deeper and into Eagle Mine in Michigan, which is 1,774.4 feet below sea level. The Taycan Cross Turismo then drove all the way up to the summit of Pikes Peak in Colorado, which is 14,115 feet above sea level.

While the altitude difference is three miles, the total distance that the vehicle covered was 1,413 miles across, passing through the states of Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska, and then Colorado. It's a journey that lasted for 33 hours and 48 minutes, in which three groups of drivers took turns driving the EV.

In addition, drivers have to also deal with the 40 percent reduction in oxygen levels due to the sheer elevation. At this altitude, internal combustion engine (ICE) cars would have reduced performance due to the lower air pressures and oxygen levels necessary for burning fuel. Since the Taycan is an EV, it doesn't have to deal with such challenges.

The Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo variant that was used is the base Taycan 4, which means it produces 375 horsepower and 368 pound-feet of torque. It does the 0-60 mph dash in 4.8 seconds, and its 93.4 kWh battery pack is good for 227 miles in a single charge.

This isn't the first time that the Porsche Taycan has achieved a Guinness World Record. In 2020, a Taycan Turbo S continuously drifted for 26 miles, setting the first-ever world record for the longest drift by an EV. And then in 2021, another Taycan Turbo S has set the world record for the fastest indoor speed.

Based on the Taycan's roster of achievements, would this convince you to buy Porsche's EV, or would you still prefer to own a Tesla Model S?
