Back in June, we found out that the production version of the Mission E concept will be called the Taycan. Now, with development well underway and several prototypes already built, Porsche unveiled some technical data too, including its output.

While previous reports said that the Taycan would have around 600 horsepower, the Germans unveiled that the all-electric sedan will get more than that. The exact figure is still unknown, but at 600+ horsepower, you can bet that the Taycan will be really fast. The drivetrain will also use an 800-volt system which, according to Porsche, is groundbreaking, even for prototypes.

This setup requires a new generation of charging stations, which Porsche will build just in time for the production model. The good news is that the stations are compatible with vehicles using the more common 400-volt technology. This system also enables the EV to charge to 80-percent capacity in roughly 15 minutes.

The German firm also promises a range of at least 500 km, which converts to almost 311 miles. Of course, this figure will change when the car is submitted to the EPA, but the Taycan will most definitely have what it takes to give the Tesla Model S a run for its money. We already know that it will be very quick and hit 62 mph from a standing start in less than 3.5 seconds. Granted, this is not as spectacular as the range-topping Model S, but it's very impressive compared to other EVs on the market and worthy of the Porsche badge.

Porsche also unveiled that unlike other electric cars, the Taycan will be built using green energy only. So while most other EVs pollute almost as much as regular cars when built, the Taycan will be as environmentally friendly as they get. The project is part of a €6-billion investment that Porsche plans to complete through 2022.
