The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering has been described in so many ways by so many different people. But the most apt of all those descriptions, at least as far as we’re concerned, is its status as one of the most eagerly anticipated events for automotive connoisseurs and enthusiasts from all over the world.

Since its inception in 2002, the event has become regarded as the ultimate melting pot for auto aficionados. This isn’t on the level of a major auto show like Frankfurt or Geneva. It’s not even similar to something closer to home like SEMA. This event is reserved for the most revered of vehicles; the kind that fetches millions in auctions or are displayed for only so many days in a calendar year.

That’s the prestige of The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering and this year’s event, set to be held on Friday, August 16, 2013, at the newly renovated and re-opened Quail Lodge & Golf Club in Carmel Valley at the Monterey Peninsula, will be no different.

Forbes has described the event as “one of the car world’s most anticipated concours events” and no truer words have ever been spoken.

This year, a host of events are already being lined up to add even more allure to the event. It seems highly appropriate that with The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering moving into its second decade of existence, no expense is being spared to ensure that this already anticipated event becomes even more can’t-miss moving forward.

Aston Martin’s continuing celebration of its 100th anniversary will make a stop at this event where attendees will not only get a chance to celebrate with the automaker, but also receive the treat of seeing some of its legendary models. One of them is the 1965 Aston Martin DB5, the same model that is now universally regarded as the original “Bond Car”.

Another classic Aston Martin that will be shown during the event is the 1960 DB4GT. Not only is this model considered a rare piece of Aston history, but it also has historical value on its side as the first sports car in history to achieve a time of 0-100-0 mph in 20 seconds.

No event of this magnitude is complete without the presence and participation of arguably the most revered auto brand in the world today. In addition to being a Gold Sponsor at the event, Ferrari will also have a sizable attendance from its most iconic models, including the 1950 Ferrari 166 Inter Berlinetta considered as Ferrari’s first road car that subsequently set the bar for all future Ferraris manufactured after 1950 and the 1969 Ferrari 365GTS, a car many believe is considered the godfather of Ferrari’s current design philosophy and equally regarded as one of the brand’s most successful luxury models.

Philanthropic Side

Far more than just being an occasion for auto connoisseurs the world over to attend, The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering also has its charitable side in order. This year, funds raised at the event will benefit three charitable organizations: the Naval Post Graduate School, a fully accredited research university operated by the United States Navy in Monterey County, Rancho Cielo, a nonprofit which offers comprehensive learning and social services for underserved youth in Monterey County and the California Highway Patrol 11-99 Foundation, which provides emergency benefits to California Highway Patrol employees and their families in times of crisis.

Kirby’s first exposure into the world of automobiles happened when he caught Knight Rider on television as a five-year old boy. David Hasselhoff didn’t leave much of an impression on him (that happened later on in Baywatch), but KITT certainly did. To this day, Kirby remains convinced that he will one day own a car with the same ‘spirit’ as the original KITT (not the 2008 monstrosity). He doesn't know when that will be, but until then, he’s committed to expressing his love for KITT, and all cars for that matter, here at TopSpeed.  Read More
