The Range-Topping Fisker Ocean Extreme Will Put Most Sports Cars to Shame

The Fisker Ocean will make 536 horses, which is more than even the $100,000-Porsche Taycan 4S!

It has been over a year since Fisker returned to the automotive scene with the Ocean SUV. The all-electric SUV was revealed with a smart exterior and interior, 250 miles of range, 2.9 seconds to 60 mph, etc. These impressive specs made sure the Ocean created a lot of noise and put companies like Ford and Tesla on notice.

Now the automaker has revealed that the Ocean will make over 500 horses, which is a stark improvement over the previously confirmed highest output of 302 horses.

The Ocean Could Turn The Tide For Fisker

Henrik Fisker is credited for designing beautiful cars like the BMW Z8 and Aston Martin DB9. His first company, Fisker Automotive, created the Karma in 2008, which was one of the first luxury PHEVs to be introduced to the world. But, the company declared bankruptcy and was taken over by a Chinese firm.

Fast-forward to March 2019, Fisker debuted again as an automaker, this time called Fisker Inc., and announced that it is dipping its toes in the affordable electric SUV niche. It revealed the ‘Ocean’ at the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show and looked like a complete package. The SUV created a lot of buzz as it came with an impressive feature list, dual-motor, four-wheel-drive configuration on higher trims, and a starting price of $37,500 before accounting for federal tax credits and state incentives.

Ocean’s 536-Horsepower Puts Many Supercars To Shame

Now the CEO, Henrik Fisker, tweeted that the Ocean will make 536 horses!

For what is apparently an affordable electric SUV, this power rating is very impressive. Henrik Fisker gave us this piece of information before the complete spec-reveal in November.

536 horses will be produced by two motors combined. This is a lot more than the previously confirmed 302 horses.

Despite 536 Horses, Can The Ocean Sprint To 60 mph In Under Three Seconds?

At the Ocean’s reveal in 2020, Fisker also noted that the SUV will sprint to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds, which seemed a little too ambitious with just 302 horses. But, it looks like this was the plan all along. Honestly, we’re a little skeptical about the 0-60 mph time even after the increased-horsepower announcement. Forget about the high-end Teslas and trucks like the Rivian R1T and GMC Hummer EV that offer this kind of performance; even the Ocean’s latest rival, the Kia EV6, will take 3.5 seconds to the 62 mph sprint (perhaps 3.4 seconds to 60 mph) despite making 577 horses.

If it happens to be true, then these specs will make the Ocean more powerful and quicker than the Porsche Taycan 4S which starts at over $100,000, and also the entire 911 Carrera and Targa range!
