Tesla has been changing Model 3 prices very frequently lately. In its latest change, the automaker has added the $5,000 performance upgrade package as standard equipment on the top-trim of the Model 3 without any increase in the price. This time, the change is a good thing!

What Does The Performance Upgrade Include?

The Performance Upgrade option is added to the most expensive trim in the Model 3 lineup – the Dual Motor Performance. It comes with an all-wheel-drive system and has a 310-mile estimated range. The starting price of the trim is the same $65,200 even after the $5,000 upgrade. Post the upgrade, the Model 3 can now touch 155 mph.

$5,000 Is No Small Amount

This obviously didn’t go well with the buyers who had already paid the extra amount. After they complained to Elon Musk on Twitter about the sudden change, Musk agreed to refund $5,000 or allow them to opt for free Supercharging for the entirety of ownership. Sweet deal, huh?

A couple of months back, Tesla offered free "unlimited" Supercharging to all current Model 3 Performance owners, and allowed them to gift new buyers the same benefit under the company's referral program. The ‘scheme’ ended in September and the Model 3 is no longer available with free Supercharging.

Conclusion

The Long Range trim, which was priced at $55,200 earlier, was decreased by a $1,000. So presently, the mid-range Model 3 is the least expensive model in the company’s line-up, and it achieves a range of 260 miles on a full charge as per EPA-estimated range.
