Do the budget constraints have anything to do with this?

We recently learned that the Corvette C8 is going to miss the upcoming Detroit Auto Show in January 2019. According to GM Authority, anonymous sources have said that the automaker is delaying the mid-engined ‘Vette by six months after the engineers discovered a "major electrical issue" with the car. If true, this screw-up is quite embarrassing for the automaker.

What Is The Problem with the C8 Chevy Corvette?

According to the report, "The vehicle’s electrical system can't carry the load necessary to support the necessary components."

So, the whole electrical system will have to be re-done from the scratch. Apart from taking extra time, this could also have various side effect on the car. GM will have to dig deep to find out the cause of this, and also coordinate with the suppliers involved in providing various electrical components and all other related equipment. This won’t affect the design inside or out, but will still take quite some time to come out clear. And how much time will it take? Six months, apparently, and as a result of the delay, the C8 may now be launched as a 2020 model in the second-half of next year.

The ‘Vette Seems Vulnerable

The Corvette C8 has been subject to a lot of leaks lately; with the biggest reveal that surfaced the internet being its engine specs.

Are these company insiders seeking revenge over the massive firings and budget cuts? Someone on the Corvette Forum said that the C8 would come with an LT1 V-8 unit that would churn out 520 horses to start off with and would later receive a 5.5-liter, twin-turbo, V-8 engine in the ZR1 disguise. He also alleged that the C8 will NOT feature a manual transmission.

Our Take

The question here is, how did the engineers not catch this problem in the design process? We hope to hear from General Motors soon. Now that the Mustang will be revealed in all its glory with no one to steal its thunder at the Detroit Auto Show, is it safe to say that the ‘Vette got scared of the Mustang and peed its pants which caused the electrical system failure? I can hear Ford lovers scream “Hell Yeah!” Anyway, what is your take on this goof-up? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
