"Aston Martin powers into a new V-6 era." This was the title of a press release announcing that the Valhalla will get a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 developed in house by the British carmaker. The year was 2020. Fast forward to April 2021 and new reports say that the Valhalla will, in fact, be blessed with AMG power. But, this isn't the first time that we've heard this.

According to Autocar, the mid-engine Valhalla will be “substantially revised” ahead of its debut in 2023. What’s more, Aston Martin will supposedly introduce this revised version sometime “in the coming months.”

The replacing engine, says Autocar, would most likely come in the form of the electrified 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 that is already set to debut in the Mercedes-AMG GT73 4Matic.

Now, it’s unclear if Aston Martin will make such a move, but if the rumors are true, then it’ll be interesting to see how the swap will happen from the packaging standpoint. We don’t know if the Valhalla’s platform offers enough room for the hybrid V-8 to be plonked in or if AMG’s electric motor can be positioned on the rear axle. So that’s a big if at this point.

Since the Valhalla will rival the likes of Ferrari SF90 and McLaren Speedtail, we expect the powertrain to churn out around 1,000 horsepower.

Then again, a few things need to happen before we can talk about power and whatnot: 1) Aston Martin must be indeed poised on replacing its V-6 with AMG power and 2) the Valhalla must be able to receive the new engine without extensive mods that would only bring up the manufacturing cost. We’ll be monitoring the topic and update you as soon as new info surfaces.
