Radical co-founder Phil Abbott is venturing into a new race car space with a new company called Revolution Racecars. Among the first orders of business is developing the Revolution, a two-seat track race car that has one purpose in life: speed. The company hopes to sell the 300-horsepower track car at a price approaching $130,000.

Phil Abbott’s plan for Revolution Racecars sounds familiar. He did it back then when he co-founded Radical and turned it into the creator of models like the SR8 RX and the SR3 RSX. That was a long time ago, though, because a lot of things have changed. Abbott’s moving on to something different, even though it feels like he never really left the game.

His new project involves building Revolution Racecars from scratch. A big part of achieving that is developing The Revolution race car and making sure it gets off the ground. It will also feature a Ford-sourced 3.7-liter V-6 engine that will produce 300 horsepower. A six-speed sequential transmission from 3MO will also be used in the Revolution. For those who don’t know, 3MO is a company that builds racing components, specifically those used in touring, hill climb, and rally racing.

That’s all the details we have at the moment, but knowing who’s behind the project is reason enough to get excited about the Revolution. Phil Abbott knows his way around developing pocket racers that can do serious damage to our sensibilities. If he has the finances in place to develop the Revolution, there’s no telling what kind of car he’s capable of building.

That’s a lot of money to float around on a track car that hasn’t been built yet. But if you have faith in Abbott and what he’s trying to do with Revolution Racecars, you can take comfort knowing that he’s going to make sure that the money you end paying for the Revolution — if it does go into production — will be money well-spent.
