Rivian’s pickup truck, the R1T, was spotted during commercial filming in Canada. The R1T was seen driving around completely undisguised, giving the residents and onlookers a preview of one of the most exciting vehicles coming to the market in the near future.
Rivian R1T Pre-Production Truck Caught At Commercial Filming

Mind you, this is not a small clipping that gives you a glance of the truck wherein you need to pause the video to figure out what it actually looks like.
The Rivian R1T Was Spotted In The Real World Earlier As Well
This is not the first time we are seeing the Rivian R1t in the real world. A couple of months back, the Rivian R1T was spotted in Tierra del Fuego, an island chain shared by Chile and Argentina, known for its glaciers, snowy mountains, and wind-sculpted trees. The fact that the trucks were seen here shows how extensively Rivian has been testing the pickup truck. The pictures reflected a number of changes that the potential pre-production R1T has in comparison to the concept version we’ve seen previously. Some of the changes noticed were:
-* Charging port moved from passenger’s side to the driver’s side in the front
-* Rivian badges and logos
-* The truck was spotted in a white shade for the first time
-* Tow hooks were seen on the front bumper
-* Rear bumper and diffusers were shaped differently
-* No rear quarter windows
-* Silver metal hooks on the rear bumper eliminated
What We Know About The R1T So Far
- Rivian is marketing the R1T as an off-road, lifestyle adventure pickup, and is targeting it as a family camper.
- The R1T churns out 788 ponies that make it sprint to the 60 mph mark in three seconds flat.
- Four electric motors - one connected to each wheel - make 197 horsepower each.
- The R1T will be offered with three battery pack options: 105 kWh, 135 kWh, and 180 kWh.
- The R1T will offer up to 400 miles of range.
- 0-60 mph achieved in 4.9 seconds with the smallest battery pack and in 3.2 seconds with the largest battery pack.
Known features inlcude
- Adjustable air suspension that can raise the R1T from 7.9 inches to 14.2 inches by the press of a button
- A 15.6-inch touchscreen system on the dashboard
- 12.3-inch instrument cluster
- Level 3 autonomy
Although these are some really impressive specs and features that have set the benchmark in the segment, the R1T’s towing capabilities are nowhere close to the competition. When Tesla announced that its pickup truck will be able to tow up to 300,000 pounds, Ford decided to counter it. The Blue Oval released a video showing the F-150 electric prototype tow up to 1.25 million pounds.
To further cement its desirability and credibility factors, Rivian also announced a camper version for the R1T. This comes with roof rack-mounted Maxtrax recovery boards, a built-in air compressor, a shovel, and a Hi-Lift jack. Other than this, the Ford and Amazon-funded company will also offer a pull-out kitchen for the R1T. This retractable kitchen includes two induction burners, cookware, utensils, and a sink with five gallons of water storage to prepare the meals and wash the dishes. The battery consumption for the same is 20 kWh to cook for a week, or just 11-percent of the largest 180 kWh Rivian battery pack. Rivian will also be offering a 12V refrigerator in the front trunk.
