Sometimes, the strangest of vehicles show up at the drag strip to see how they fare in a ¼ mile run. This time around, the Wheels YouTube Channel put out a video of a Quad bike taking on the local Jefferson County Sheriff’s Ford Explorer Police car, at the Bandimere Speedway in Morrisson, Colorado. But it didn’t stop there as the Quad bike also went up against a Mitsubishi EVO X and another Quad. Let’s see how things pan out.

Ford Explorer

The Sheriff’s Explorer seen here is a sixth-generation example. It is outfitted with all the stuff that you’d typically find on a Police car, like a bull bar up front, the overhead lights, and a siren. In fact, this very Explorer recently took on a Nissan GTR and a Shelby GT500. We can’t confirm the specs of this Police cruiser, however, the Civilian version comes with a range of 3.0 Liter engines that produce anywhere between 285 horsepower and 400 horsepower. The Ford Explorer weighs 4345 pounds.

Quad Bike

Now when was the last time you saw a Quad bikes show up at the drag strip? Well, here we are. A Quad bike is essentially an ATV with four wheels and in most cases, the one that you’d find either on the farm or on a dirt trail and they’re mostly fitted with all-terrain rubber. However, that's not the case with the one you see here. This particular Quad Bike is wearing sticky Hoosier rubber, purpose-built for the drag strip. As far as the specs go, Quad Bikes generally weigh anywhere between 800 and 1000 pounds and have an engine displacement, upwards of 500cc.

Mitsubishi EVO

We also had the Quad Bike go up against a Mitsubishi EVO X. While we don’t have the specs for this one either, what I will say is that the EVO is one of the most tuneable cars out there and I’m sure it's running a bunch of mods under the hood. But an out-of-the-box, the EVO X featured a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that produces anywhere between 276 and 440 horsepower. The EVO tips the scales at over 3100 pounds.

Round 1

For round one, we have the Sheriff take on the Quad Biker. Both pull up to the line. Before the Christmas lights go out, the lights on the cop car begin to flash. It's go time and unsurprisingly, it's the Quad bike that's ahead. Being the lighter amongst the two, the Quad obviously has the weight advantage over the SUV. With the Explorer now behind and a howling siren to boot, it looks as though the Sheriff is in hot pursuit of the Quad biker. They make it to the finish line with the biker clocking in a time of 15.89 seconds at 71.30 mph, while the Sheriff managed the ¼ mile in 16 seconds flat at 87.31 mph.

Round 2

Next, it’s the Quad Bike against the Mitsubishi EVO X. On paper, it looks like this one could be a lot closer, considering that the Lancer weighs much lesser than the SUV and is packing AWD traction as well. Let's see if that holds true. The pair line up at the start line. The hammer drops and just like before it's the Quad that’s ahead. Although, the EVO did manage to keep up with the bike and it was pretty much neck and neck until the midway point. However, as they approach the ¼ mile, it was the Mitsubishi that was ahead clocking in a time of 14.61 seconds at 101 mph, while the Quad managed 16.26 seconds at 69.72 mph.

Round 3

In a final bonus round, we have the same biker go up against yet another yellow Quad bike, this one from Suzuki. The lights go out and they pretty much hammer it down the track and once again, its the same black Quad bike from before, that takes this one as well, with a ¼ mile time of 16.11 seconds at 68.01 mph, while the yellow one managed 18.16 seconds at 60.93 seconds.

To Sum it Up

This has to be, by far one of the strangest duels that I’ve come across, and it's very unlikely that you’ll ever see something like this in the real world. But within the safe confines of a drag strip, it just goes to show that anything is possible. It was a hell of a lot of fun watching this one, and judging by the way that stealthy black quad goes, looks like there are some serious mods that it's running.
