The sixth generation Chevrolet Camaro is nearing the end of its production run with the 2023 model year being the last refresh of the American icon before being discontinued in 2024. There have been talks about what's coming next, and it looks like the Camaro nameplate will be adopted by an EV sedan. The Camaro's main rival, the Ford Mustang, has already taken steps forward with the S650 generation, which will feature hybrid powertrains and then, there's the Mustang Mach-E. While the sixth-generation Camaro is not enjoying great sales figures, an independent graphic designer that goes by jlord8, has envisioned a more practical version in the form of the Chevy Camaro Sportback, and we have to say, it looks like a missed opportunity from GM.

The pixel artist has an impressive portfolio and we notice some very creative stuff, among which is a Pontiac GTO Judge Pick-up truck, a Pontiac Fierro Speedster, a new Buick Riviera, and more. However, his latest work on the Chevy Camaro is something we would have loved to see in the real world. Moreover, GM partner Callaway did a similar thing with the Chevy Corvette C7 by introducing the Callaay AeroWagen. While a shooting brake body style is somewhat controversial for an all-out sports car like the C7 Corvette, it almost makes perfect sense to apply the same treatment to the more utilitarian (by comparison) Camaro.

While the artist does not hide that Audi station wagons are his go-to conversions, we see nothing of one here, except the Sportback name, which is commonly used by the German carmaker. It seems the designer has simply extended the rear section of the Camaro's cockpit and added a roof-mounted rear spoiler, similar to what the Camaro SS comes with. The basis for the project is a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, which packs 660 horsepower (485 kilowatts) at 6,400 RPM and 640 pound-feet (868 Nm) at 3,600 RPM from its 6.2-liter supercharged, pushrod V-8.

While Callaway never did anything similar with the Camaro, GM's future plans may involve a more practical version of the future Camaro, whatever it may turn out to be. Until then, the Chevrolet Camaro remains one of the best and sportiest American muscle cars, currently on sale.
