The Subaru Crosstrek is one of the very few crossover SUVs with some real clout. The combination of affordability, off-road capability, and a slick 6-speed manual gearbox is what gives it what cool factor it has. Now, Subaru has updated the pricing on the Crosstrek, which is arguably beloved by hipsters more than any other new car around the country. Here is the breakdown of the 2022 Crosstrek trim levels and pricing.

Trim levels

All Crosstreks come with black alloy wheels, black plastic body cladding, a black roof spoiler, 8.7-inches of ground clearance, symmetrical all-wheel drive, and seven airbags.

The cheapest trim is simply called the Base. The Base is powered by a 2-liter boxer engine capable of 152 horsepower and 145lb-ft of torque, which can be mated to either a CVT or a 6-speed manual gearbox. This level comes with pretty standard equipment for a new car; automatic climate control, a 6.5-inch infotainment display, power mirrors, windows, and door locks, 60/40 split-folding rear seats, keyless entry, tilt and telescoping steering wheel, yadda yadda yadda.

The next level is the Premium and is powered by the same drivetrain as the Base. The Premium includes a heated steering wheel, heated windows, and heated door mirrors (part of the All-Weather Package), a 6-speaker sound system, two USB ports, automatic headlights, and a few other small bits and bobs.

The Base and Premium trims with the CVT get 28 city MPG and 33 highway MPG. The manual gearbox models get 22 city and 29 highway MPG.

Unfortunately, that is where the manual gearbox breathes its final breath in the Crosstrek lineup.

The additions to the Crosstrek Sport are purely functional. It gets a 2.5-liter boxer-4 cylinder and with 182 horsepower and 176lb-ft of torque connected to a CVT. The Sport also gets "X-MODE" which includes hill descent control and "SNOW/DIRT" and "DEEP SNOW/MUD" settings for the AWD system. Along with gunmetal grey trim and waterproof upholstery.

The Crosstrek Limited is meant to be nice and comfy with extra leather, LED lighting in various places, a 6-way adjustable power driver's seat, and an LCD 8-inch infotainment display. It also shares the same drivetrain as the Sport.

The Sport and Limited trims get 37 city, and 34 highway MPG.

Last is the Crosstrek Hybrid which, essentially is the same as the Limited, except with the drivetrain from the Base with two electric motors. However, the Hybrid can only go a maximum of 17 miles on electricity alone and gets 35 MPG/90 MPGe with a maximum range of 480 miles.

Pricing

Most Crosstrek comes with an extra $1,125 destination and delivery fee tacked onto the MSRP. Also, the CVT is a $1,350 option on teh Base and Premium trims. Here is what the pricing breakdown looks like.

What we would buy

The Crosstrek we would configure is the Premium with the 6-speed manual in Horizon Blue Pearl paint with the grey interior. The manual would probably be necessary to get all of that 152 horsepower you can.

We would also chuck on the All-Weather floor liners and the differential under guard for the added off-road practicality. As well as the Rockford Fosgate Audio Upgrade and the blue metal Subaru branded oil cap, just because it's cool.

Those optional extras have a combined price of $948.90, which brings the total cost of the Subaru Crosstrek: TopSpeed edition to $25,293, well under the average cost of a new car in the U.S., which is about $45,000.
