The Tesla Cybertruck has finally been unveiled, and, as expected, it already has everyone buzzing. From its controversial looks to its power and performance capabilities, Tesla promised a truck like no other, and for the most part, that’s exactly what the Cybertruck is.

Reservations are now open for the Cybertruck; they went live as soon as the live unveiling ended. Interested customers will have to wait to receive their trucks, though, as full orders are expected to be taken “as production nears in late 2021.”

Elon Musk made it clear in the live unveiling:

In true Tesla fashion, the California-based electric car marker did try something different. The Tesla Cybertruck is here, touting an angular, wedge-shaped appearance that’s unlike any truck we’ve ever seen. The Cybertruck measures 231.7 inches long, 79.8 inches wide, and 75 inches tall. It’s longer than a Ford F-150 with a 6.5-foot bed, though width and height measurements are almost the same.

If the Cybertruck’s design doesn’t impress you, the materials from which the body panels are made of should. They’re made from ultra-hard 30x cold-rolled stainless steel. Musk indicated that it’s the same material that Tesla will use on the Starship rocket, drawing ‘oohs’ and ‘ahhs’ from the gathered crowd as he said it. The Cybertruck is also equipped with Tesla Armor Glass, which we first saw on the Tesla Semi. Demonstrations occurred to prove as much.

Underneath the controversial exoskeleton body is an adaptive air suspension. This comes standard on the Cybertruck, as do adjustable ride-height and dampening capabilities. The truck can also support a payload of 3,500 pounds and comes with a maximum towing capacity of 14,000 pounds, right smack in the range of what today’s heavy hauling trucks are capable of.

The power output wasn’t mentioned, but the Single Motor RWD is capable of going from 0 to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds and hit a top speed of 110 mph. It will also carry a range of 250-plus miles. A Dual Motor AWD comes next and it has to ability to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds on its way to a top speed of 120 mph. Range is rated at 300-plus miles. The range-topping model is the Tri Motor AWD. It has ungodly acceleration abilities — 0 to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 10.0 seconds — and a top speed of 130 mph. It also corners like “it’s on rails.” Range is pegged at 500-plus miles, head and shoulders above any electric car that’s been released in the market to date.

The Cybertruck’s interior wasn’t shown in the live unveiling, but official renderings show a cabin that can accommodate up to six people. The interior is typically minimalist in design, as is often the case with Tesla’s other models.

When it comes to charging capabilities, the Cybertruck comes with 250+ kW of support to go with 110V and 220V outlets to plug your work tools and whatever needs plugging at any time. An on-board air compressor is also available in the truck. Likewise, the Cybertruck has access to Tesla’s Supercharger network, including the automaker’s latest V3 technology. It can also be charged at home or at Destination Charging locations.

On the tech side of things, the Cybertruck will come with Autopilot and Tesla’s ADAS, which the automaker promised will gradually improve over time as more software updates are released through over-the-air updates.

Arguably the night’s biggest reaction came when Musk unveiled pricing details for the Tesla Cybertruck. The entry-level Single Motor RWD starts at $39,900 before incentives. The mid-tier Dual Motor AWD trim is priced from $49,900, also before incentives. Then there’s the range-topping Tri Motor AWD, which will set you back at least $69,900, again before incentives. Production isn’t expected to begin until late 2021, but Tesla is already taking orders for the Cybertruck.

Whether you order one or not is up entirely up to you, but given all the details and information at our disposal, it’s had to resist the urge to see first-hand what the Cybertruck ends up being when it officially hits the market.
