Announced with great celebrations at Goodwood Revival back in 2017, the same year TVR celebrated its 70th birthday, the reborn Griffith sports car gradually fell into a cone of shadow after a series of delays and it got to a point where it completely went off radar for the past two years.

Put in front of this sizzle and no steak situation, we, just like you, thought the project was dumped. Apparently, that is not the case as a new loan keeps TVR on track to delivering the second-gen Griffith.

For starters, know that the TVR website is still up and running, with the company accepting deposits for the new Griffith, which at first will be offered in a small production run badged Launch Edition.

More importantly, a report from Insider Media picked up by Motor1 says that TVR just secured a £2 million ($2.7 million) loan under the U.K. Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme (CBILS). The amount is said to be just enough for TVR to apply the finishing touches to its Wales-based plant and eventually start assembling the Griffith.

Speaking of which, we know from when it was first unveiled that the Griffith gets a Ford Mustang-sourced 5-liter V-8 engine retouched by Cosworth, bolted to a six-speed Tremec manual gearbox.

Power will then go to the rear wheels and we are told that the Griffith will also split its weight equally between the front and rear axle, reaching that perfect and very desirable 50/50 weight distribution ratio. TVR also says that the Griffith will have a 400hp/ton power-to-weight ratio, so the V-8 might be massaged to produce around 500 horsepower, since the unladed weight of the Griffith is estimated at 2,756 pounds (1,250 kilos).

What is more, the sports car sits on the iStream Carbon chassis developed by Gordon Murray Design – yes, that Gordon Murray – which trumpets a rigidity of 20,000 Newton-meters (14,751 pound-feet) per degree. Performance-wise, the Griffith will accelerate from naught to 60 mph in under four seconds on to a top speed of 200 mph.

On that note, we really hope that TVR finds a way to speed up whatever processes are necessary to get the Griffith in shape for a debut this year.
