The fact that Jaguar->ke39 is already working on a hardcore, SVR-badged version of the F-Type->ke1224 is no longer a secret, but the details surrounding this beefed-up two-seater are still scant. As the Brits continue to test F-Types equipped with revised bumpers, pop-up spoilers, and big ceramic brake discs in Europe, the folks over at Car Magazine report that the SVR will feature an all-wheel-drive system as standard.

Although the British outlet doesn't quote a source for its report, it does claim that Jaguar wants to position the 2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR against the 2016 Porsche 911 Turbo and argues that "...the blown, all-wheel drive 911 outsells the rear-drive GT3 by at least four to one." Also, because it doesn't have a motorsport->ke447 program, Jaguar reportedly has no reason to sell its most powerful sports car with a rear-wheel-drive layout.

Moreover, a 600-horspeower F-Type would be better of with an AWD system to keep the extra power and torque in check.

Car also suggests that the F-Type SVR will sport several aero features seen on the limited-edition 2015 Jaguar Project 7, including a carbon-fiber rear diffuser. Larger intakes for the front bumper are also on the table to help feed more air to the supercharged, 5.0-liter V-8 powerplant.

Why it matters

Even though this piece of information is still speculation, an AWD F-Type SVR makes a lot of sense, especially if Jaguar hopes to provide the market with an alternative to the mighty 911 Turbo->ke571. If current trends are any indication, sports car->ke506 enthusiasts are likely to favor all-wheel-drive, as it improves performance (in most cases) and helps the vehicle stick better to the road. Sure, some hardcore drivers would rather have all that oomph sent to the rear wheels only, but business is business, no matter the badge.
