It would be more like a crossover-truck of sorts, but it’s not bad

With the Volkswagen ID.4 revealed, we’re naturally wondering what’s coming next. Knowing Volkswagen, and the fact that the ID.4 and ID.3 share the same MEB architecture, a handful of electric models will probably share the same bones. So, why not an ID-based truck? Well, rendering artist KDesign AG was thinking the same thing and threw together the renderings you see here. Overall, it doesn’t look too bad at all, really.

An ID.4 Pickup Isn’t Likely, But Never Say Never, Right?

Let’s be honest; the ID.4 really is too small to satisfy the truck desires of the general public today – this isn’t the 90s when models like the Chevy S10 and old school, compact, Ford Ranger would get attention. Even the unibody Honda Ridgeline takes criticism for not being a “real” truck like the Chevy Silverado, Ford F-150, or even the larger modern-day Ford Ranger. Be that as it may, it doesn’t change the fact that the ID.4 has the right proportions to look good as a little truck, even with the tiny, nearly unusable bed in the back.

This Truck rendering isn’t likely, but the other renderings you see here are quite likely. That coupe-crossover is largely possible and was actually previewed by the VW Crozz II concept.

The ID.4 GTI rendering makes sense, too, with this rendering sporting cues like the wheels and front fascia from the current GTI.

There’s also an ID4 wagon rendering to digest, which is also likely – at least for Europe – and was also previewed by the Space Vizzion Concept.

With the ID.4 as we know it is going on sale in the first quarter of 2021 (at a starting price of $39,995 here in the States), you can expect the AWD model to arrive a few months later by spring 2021, and the next iteration of the ID.4 – probably the Euro-wagon – to arrive by the end of 2021 or in early 2022. These are Interesting times for Volkswagen, that’s for sure.
